He

He opens his eyes and switches off the alarm before it sounds and disturbs.

He washes up and puts on clothes that let others feel confident about him. The mirror tells him its another challenging day that won’t kill him.

He leaves home and goes to the place where he gets bread for the family.

He is passionate, he is creative. He is 100 percent confident. Supportive and encouraging words are always nice.

When he is with himself, he reflects. When he is by himself, he longs for his loved ones.

What is his next big project? What will he conquer next?

He likes to be with his family, yet he had a record of working long hours.

The day turns into night. He stops all work.

He comes home, settles down, cleans up and gets changed.

He gets back into bed.

He smiles at her. He gives her a kiss.

Daddy whispers into mommy’s ear.

I love you.

She

She wakes up and rolls around in bed hoping to sleep a little more.

She washes up, prepares herself and makes herself pretty for the day. She smiles at the mirror, the mirror smiles back at her.

She starts the day and takes on the challenges the world has to offer.

She is intelligent, she is capable. She is almost 100 percent confident. Reassuring and encouraging words are always nice.

When she is with herself, she thinks. When she is by herself, she enjoys life. What will she do later? What will she achieve next?

She likes to be alone, yet she is surrounded with people who love her.

The day slows down. She starts to unwind.

She comes home, she settles down, cleans up and gets changed into comfortable sleeping clothes.

She rolls back into bed. She stretches. She makes herself comfortable and starts to doze off.

I smile at her. I give her a kiss. I whisper in her ear.

Daddy loves you.

Good night my love.

Love

Love. Such a simple word.

A word used everyday. A word that hangs by the lips of some. A word that’s hidden in the hearts of some.

The word that some long to say, the word some long to hear, the word that some can’t comprehend.

Love. Such a difficult act.

The act of patience and kindness. The act of protecting, trusting, persevering.

Love. Such a powerful word. The word that keeps some of us alive.

Psalm 4:4-5

“In your anger do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.

Offer right sacrifices
and trust in the LORD.”
~ Psalm 4:4-5

I hardly get angry and when i do, i don’t like it. Never did manage to handle my anger properly.

I don’t go on a rage, i don’t explode (although i would like to), I implode.

I remember I had an Indian tutor in my early secondary school days and I addressed her as Mrs Pandian. She was old and wise, she was one of the tutors i gave no trouble to. I respected her.

She hardly knew me as we never talked about stuff other then school work (at least from what i can remember), but one day out of the blue, she told me something that i never did forget. It went something like “Nicholas, you are a very good boy & you have a very good heart, you keep things to yourself even when you are angry. I see you like a volcano, you keep on keeping things inside & one day, you will need to explode & if you do, alot of people around you will be hurt. Its not going to be nice. So don’t explode ok, ask Jesus to help you.”

I never forgot those words. When ever i felt angry, these words came back naturally.

Its been many years, i’ve been angry with many people.

This time its different.

This time i’m angry at myself.
